Every source we use

The big picture: Every fact on this site comes from a source below. We read each one ourselves on the date shown. When a source is not an official government page, or when we could not open it, we say so.

What the labels mean

No label
An official law, court form, or government page that we opened and read.
Not official
We read it, but it comes from a legal aid group, an advocacy group, or a bill tracker, not the government. We use these when they explain something official sources do not.
Not confirmed
We could not open the source or could not find the detail in an official source. Check it yourself before you rely on it.
Our reading
Our interpretation of what a law or page means, where it does not say so directly. It is not legal advice.

Researchers and developers: this list is also available as sources.json, and the numbers that change, like fees, are in facts.json. Our research notes, with what we checked and what we could not confirm, are in the project's source and audit trail.
